RoadSource Special: First TEXpress Lanes on I-35W OPEN

Construction on I-35W project in Fort Worth consists of two major phases. Phase 1, which was developed by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), is now OPEN. Drivers can use the new NTE TEXpress Lanes on I-35W to travel from just north of Northeast Loop 820 to US 287.

There are two new TEXpress Lanes entrance ramps and four exit ramps on this section of I-35W. The US 287 South Entrance ramp and the I-35W Exit ramp are temporary and will be replaced by permanent ramps this fall.

Once the entire I-35W project is completed with Phase 2 in 2018, there will be 15 entrances and 11 exits on the TEXpress Lanes.

Phase 1 Southbound I-35W Ramps

I-35W/820 Exit ramp (the only southbound exit, past Western Center Boulevard):

*NOTE: The I-35W/820 Exit ramp is not a direct connector to the eastbound TEXpress Lanes on I-820. Direct connectors to/from I-820 will open with Phase 2 in 2018.

Basswood Boulevard Entrance ramp (on the southbound frontage

Southbound Temporary US 287 Entrance ramp:

  • The Temporary US 287 South Entrance ramp, situated on US 287, is accessible from the southbound I-35W general highway lanes. This ramp will be replaced by a permanent ramp in the fall.

Phase 1 Northbound I-35W Ramps

I-35W/820 Entrance ramp (northbound I-35W general highway lanes, past I-820 and Fossil Creek Drive):

Basswood Boulevard Exit ramp (past Western Center Boulevard):

Northbound Temporary I-35W Exit ramp:

  • The Temporary I-35W exit ramp, is located past Basswood Boulevard and places drivers onto the northbound I-35W general highway lanes. This ramp will be replaced when the final section of Phase 1 opens in the fall

Toll Rates and Pricing Info

Phase 1 of I-35W features fixed time-of-day pricing for the first six months of operation. Toll prices will be higher during the morning and afternoon rush-hour periods.

I-35W Construction Details

Upcoming Openings:

  • The Basswood Boulevard Entrance ramp (coming soon).

  • The final section of Phase 1, from US 287 to N. Tarrant Parkway, will open by November.

  • Phase 2, from downtown Fort Worth to Northeast Loop 820, is scheduled to be completed in fall 2018.

50% HOV Discount on I-35W

Carpool drivers and motorcyclists qualify for the 50% HOV discount on the new TEXpress Lanes on I-35W during the weekly rush-hour periods.

HOV Discount Schedule:

  • Monday through Fridays, from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • Remember to ACTIVATE your 50% HOV discount 15 minutes prior to entering the TEXpress Lanes.
